Training course

Overview

Technical Management for Supervisors is a comprehensive professional training course designed for supervisors, frontline technical leaders, senior technicians, team leaders, coordinators, foremen, and experienced professionals responsible for supervising technical operations, maintenance activities, engineering work, production processes, projects, assets, and technical teams. The course develops the practical supervisory capabilities required to translate organisational objectives into safe, efficient, controlled, and measurable technical work. Participants learn how to supervise people, allocate resources, monitor technical performance, coordinate activities, manage work priorities, enforce standards, identify risks, solve problems, and communicate effectively with managers, employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.

The course integrates practical supervisory management approaches with recognised technical, operational, quality, safety, risk, and asset-management frameworks. Participants are introduced to relevant principles from ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, ISO 31000 Risk Management, and ISO 55000 Asset Management, together with Lean management, PDCA, 5S, root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and structured problem-solving practices. Practical supervisory tools include daily work plans, shift handover checklists, job cards, work permits, toolbox talks, responsibility matrices, inspection checklists, risk assessments, maintenance schedules, resource plans, issue logs, action trackers, KPI dashboards, escalation matrices, and supervisor performance reports.

Technical supervisors operate at the critical interface between management strategy and frontline execution. They must coordinate people, equipment, materials, contractors, schedules, technical instructions, quality requirements, safety controls, and operational priorities while responding to unexpected problems and changing conditions. This course provides structured techniques for planning daily work, assigning responsibilities, monitoring execution, controlling quality, managing technical risks, responding to incidents, handling equipment and resource constraints, addressing performance issues, and escalating matters appropriately. Real-world scenarios address equipment breakdowns, delayed work, resource shortages, unsafe practices, quality defects, contractor problems, conflicting priorities, communication failures, technical errors, and operational disruptions.

Through practical exercises, workplace simulations, case studies, planning activities, risk assessments, problem-solving workshops, toolbox-talk exercises, performance-management scenarios, quality-control activities, and an integrated supervisory capstone, participants progressively develop the skills required to lead technical work effectively. The programme moves from the foundations of technical supervision through work planning, workforce coordination, safety, quality, maintenance and asset performance, risk management, communication, problem solving, performance monitoring, contractor coordination, continuous improvement, digital tools, and advanced supervisory leadership. Participants gain practical methods for improving technical execution, workforce accountability, operational reliability, productivity, quality, safety, and sustainable workplace performance.
