Training course
Overview
Technical Management for Managers
is a comprehensive professional training course designed for engineering
managers, technical managers, department heads, project managers, operations
leaders, and experienced professionals responsible for directing technical
functions and teams. The course develops the management capabilities required
to align technical activities with organisational strategy, operational
priorities, financial objectives, quality requirements, safety obligations, and
stakeholder expectations. Participants learn how to manage technical people,
resources, projects, budgets, risks, suppliers, performance, and change while
maintaining strong technical governance and accountability.
The course integrates practical
management approaches with recognised technical and organisational frameworks,
including PMBOK principles, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, ISO 45001
Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, ISO 14001 Environmental
Management Systems, ISO 31000 Risk Management, and ISO 55000 Asset Management
principles. Managers work with practical tools such as strategic plans,
responsibility matrices, resource-capacity models, technical schedules, budget
trackers, risk registers, stakeholder maps, issue and action logs, KPI dashboards,
performance scorecards, decision matrices, change registers, management
reports, and technical maturity assessments.
Technical managers must make
decisions across competing priorities, constrained resources, financial
pressures, project delays, technical uncertainty, quality requirements, safety
risks, contractor performance, procurement challenges, asset reliability,
workforce capability, and organisational change. This course provides
structured management techniques for evaluating technical information, setting
priorities, allocating resources, challenging assumptions, managing risks,
monitoring performance, resolving problems, and communicating decisions
effectively. Real-world scenarios address project recovery, cost and schedule
pressures, technical failures, quality issues, contractor underperformance,
operational disruptions, multidisciplinary conflicts, and changing business
requirements.
Through management simulations,
case studies, strategic planning workshops, resource allocation exercises,
financial analysis, risk assessments, performance reviews, stakeholder
scenarios, change-management activities, and an integrated capstone
application, participants develop practical skills for managing technical
functions at a managerial level. The programme progresses from technical
management foundations and governance through strategic alignment, resources,
finance, project oversight, risk, quality, safety, procurement, stakeholder
management, performance optimisation, change, digital transformation, resilience,
and advanced technical leadership. Participants gain practical approaches for
improving technical accountability, operational efficiency, project outcomes,
workforce performance, and long-term organisational value.
