Training course
Overview
Engineering Project Management for
Executives is a comprehensive executive-level professional training course
designed for CEOs, managing directors, executive directors, board members,
engineering directors, operations executives, programme leaders, and senior
decision-makers responsible for the governance, investment, performance, and
strategic direction of engineering projects. The course develops the executive
perspective required to oversee complex engineering investments while
maintaining alignment between organisational strategy, project objectives,
financial performance, technical requirements, risk exposure, stakeholder
expectations, safety, quality, and long-term business value. It focuses on the
decisions executives need to make rather than the detailed technical execution
of individual project activities.
The course provides practical
executive frameworks and management tools for evaluating engineering projects
throughout their lifecycle, including PMBOK-based governance practices,
stage-gate decision-making, Engineering Work Breakdown Structures (EWBS),
project portfolio alignment, risk-based governance, Earned Value Management
(EVM), executive KPI frameworks, project dashboards, risk registers, decision
matrices, scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis, change governance,
procurement oversight, contract-performance monitoring, and benefits
realisation. Participants learn how to interpret schedules, budgets, forecasts,
risk information, quality indicators, project controls, and performance reports
so they can challenge assumptions, identify emerging problems, allocate
resources, and make informed strategic decisions.
Complex engineering projects expose
organisations to significant technical, financial, operational, commercial,
regulatory, safety, environmental, and reputational risks. This course
addresses executive-level challenges including cost overruns, schedule delays,
design changes, contractor underperformance, procurement disruptions, resource
constraints, quality failures, safety risks, inadequate project governance,
weak reporting, scope expansion, claims, and changing business priorities.
Participants develop the ability to distinguish strategic issues from
operational matters, assess project health, understand leading and lagging
indicators, evaluate risk and uncertainty, determine when intervention is
required, and establish effective escalation and accountability mechanisms.
Through executive case studies,
investment and governance scenarios, project performance reviews, risk
simulations, strategic decision-making exercises, project recovery workshops,
management dashboards, and an integrated capstone, participants apply
engineering project management principles to realistic organisational
situations. The course progresses from executive foundations and governance
through strategic project selection, planning oversight, financial and resource
governance, risk and quality assurance, procurement and contracts, project
controls, change governance, performance recovery, commissioning, handover,
benefits realisation, and executive project assurance. Emphasis is placed on
strategic oversight, governance, accountability, evidence-based decisions,
value protection, organisational alignment, and successful delivery of complex
engineering investments.
